Performance and Sport Science Fellowship

Overview:
The Pioneer League is seeking qualified applicants for Performance and Sport Science Fellowship positions (“fellows”). The fellows will be on staff at one of the teams in the Pioneer League. The position will report directly to the respective League Coordinator on sport science and research initiatives.
League Overview:
With a history stretching back to 1939, the Pioneer Baseball League is an MLB Partner League based in the Mountain West region with clubs located throughout Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Colorado, with recent expansion teams added to California (Oakland and Davis). Focused on player development, the Pioneer League rosters players with less than 3 years of professional experience throughout a 96-game schedule stretching from mid-May through mid-September. The PBL has seen many players transferred to MLB Clubs in its first three years as a partner league.
Fellowship Timeline:
The position will begin May 18 and will last until September 7. Compensation will include a monthly stipend, housing, and meal money when traveling with the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and ensure accuracy of physical performance data using technologies such as force plates, motion capture, accelerometers, and timing gates.
- Facilitate monthly assessments with deployment teams, working directly with athletes and staff. • Maintain safety protocols during testing and monitoring.
- Manage, analyze, and communicate performance data while upholding confidentiality and ethical standards. • Assist with maintaining athlete management systems and sport science equipment.
Required Qualifications:
- Rising senior or bachelor’s degree in sports science, exercise science, biomechanics, data science, or related fields.
- Relevant experience with team sport or tactical athletes, such as:
o Strength and conditioning
o Rehabilitation (e.g., sports medicine)
o Sports analytics or performance monitoring
o Applied physiology or biomechanics research
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Sheets.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate student or recent graduate in a relevant sport and performance field.
- Certifications such as NSCA-CSCS or NSCA-CPSS, or licensure as ATC or PT.
- Experience in baseball/softball or collegiate athletics.
- Familiarity with sport science technologies.
- Bilingual (Spanish proficiency).
- Strong interest in sport science careers, especially roles in professional baseball or team sports (e.g., Performance Scientist, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Athletic Trainer, or Registered Dietitian).
